is for

X-Files Day (October 13)

Is the Truth Out There?

X-Files creator Chris Carter’s Production Company

October 13 is the birthday of X-Files creator Chris Carter. October 13 and the number 1013 both occur frequently in the X-Files universe, as well as in other aspects of The X-Files (such as release dates). It also happens to be the name of Carter’s production company (Ten Thirteen Productions), and Fox Mulder’s birthday on the show.

Are you an X-phile? Did You Know…

What was Mulder’s favorite snack food?

Sunflower seeds. In “Aubrey” (Episode #36), he reveals to Scully that his father used to eat them as well and suggests that his taste for sunflower seeds may be some sort of genetic memory.

When Mulder and Scully go undercover in “Arcadia” (Episode #132), what aliases do they use?

When Mulder and Scully go undercover to find out why members of a California homeowners association keep dying mysteriously, they take a page from The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961-1966) and use the aliases Rob and Laura Petrie — the characters played by Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore in the classic sitcom.

What brand of cigarettes does the Cigarette Smoking Man in The X-Files prefer?

The Cigarette Smoking Man (played by William B. Davis) only smokes Morley cigarettes. Rarely seen without a cigarette in his hand, the CSM was originally intended to be a non-speaking character always lurking in the shadows, but he was eventually given dialogue and became the show’s primary antagonist.
